From Dallas to San Antonio:What Glow & Gather Reminded Me About My Purpose as an Esthetician
This past weekend, I traveled from Dallas to San Antonio for Glow & Gather, an event created to bring Texas estheticians together through education, connection, and honest conversations about our industry.
This past weekend, I traveled from Dallas to San Antonio for Glow & Gather, an event created to bring Texas estheticians together through education, connection, and honest conversations about our industry.
I arrived prepared to speak, share my experience, and introduce something new that my team and I have been working on. What I did not expect was to leave San Antonio feeling even more inspired, grounded, and confident in everything I have created as a Dallas esthetician and business owner.
I left with a full cup.
Not only did I have the opportunity to inspire, motivate my peers, and share my faith, but I returned to Dallas more certain than ever that the work I have done, the experience I have earned, and the ideas I continue to create cannot simply be replaced or duplicated.
Speaking Honestly About Barrier Repair and Corrective Skincare
My first presentation was titled “The DANGSKYN Method: Why Barrier Repair Comes Before Everything.”
As a corrective skincare specialist in Dallas, I regularly work with clients experiencing acne, hyperpigmentation, sensitivity, inflammation, and compromised skin barriers. One of the most important lessons I have learned throughout my career is that the skin cannot always be rushed into correction.
In the esthetics industry, we are constantly introduced to stronger treatments, new devices, advanced peels, and ingredients promising faster results. These tools can be valuable, but they cannot replace professional judgment.
Before we focus on correcting acne, pigmentation, texture, or premature aging, we have to ask whether the skin is stable enough to respond. Is the skin truly resistant, or has it never been given enough time to recover?
Are we treating the root obstacle, or are we repeatedly treating the visible symptom?
Are we building the skin’s tolerance, or are we simply testing how much it can withstand?
During my presentation, I discussed why barrier repair is not about being afraid to treat the skin. It is about properly preparing the skin so that advanced treatments can be performed more safely, intentionally, and successfully.
At DANGSKYN, my private corrective skincare studio in Dallas, barrier support is not treated as an afterthought. It is part of the treatment strategy.
My philosophy is simple, we earn the right to advance.
A stronger treatment is not always the best treatment, The best treatment is the one the skin is prepared to receive.
To someone it might seem like a slower approach, but this approach is intentional and the key to successful results.
Encouraging Estheticians to Build Brands That Are Actually Theirs
My second presentation was titled “Unlearn the Industry: Build a Brand That’s Actually Yours.”
This conversation was personal to me, because there is so much pressure in the beauty and esthetics industry to be constantly visible. Estheticians are encouraged to post more, sell more, grow faster, gain more followers, take more clients, build a larger team, and become the loudest person in the room.
There is nothing wrong with wanting growth or visibility. However, those goals should not come at the expense of your peace, your clients, or the reason you entered this industry in the first place.
I spoke about the importance of defining success for yourself.
Success may look like becoming a nationally recognized educator. It may look like building a large med spa or managing a team. It may also look like operating a quiet, private skincare studio, maintaining a selective clientele, providing meaningful results, and having enough time to enjoy your life.
None of those versions of success are less valuable than another.
For a long time, I thought I had to continue becoming more visible to prove that I was growing. Over time, I realized that some of my greatest accomplishments were happening away from social media.
They were happening inside my Dallas treatment room, when a client finally understood her skin, when an acne client regained her confidence.
They were happening when another esthetician told me that my experience helped her trust her own professional judgment.
They were happening while I was quietly creating systems, treatment methods, educational resources, and new ideas that reflected who I truly am.
Your brand becomes powerful when it stops being a performance and starts becoming an honest extension of your values.
Introducing a Sneak Peek of Our Newest Esthetics Venture
Glow & Gather also gave us the opportunity to showcase a sneak peek of our newest venture: Skindex, an app being created with the needs of estheticians and their clients in mind.
As service providers, estheticians do much more than perform treatments. We conduct consultations, review client histories, document skin changes, manage progress photos, provide home care instructions, communicate between appointments, monitor potential reactions, and make treatment decisions based on information collected over time.
Unfortunately, much of that information can become scattered between paper consultation forms, text messages, emails, photo albums, and separate booking systems.
Skindex is being developed to help create a more organized and intentional client experience.
Our vision is to give estheticians a central place to better understand and document each client’s skin journey. That includes communication, progress tracking, treatment information, client notifications, and tools designed to help professionals recognize patterns instead of viewing every appointment as an isolated visit.
Sharing an early look at Skindex with other estheticians was incredibly meaningful. This venture represents the next chapter of my work, not only as a licensed esthetician in Dallas, but also as someone who wants to help improve the systems our industry uses every day.
It was exciting to see other professionals understand the problem we are working to solve.
Returning to Dallas With More Confidence Than Ever
Being recognized as a Favorite Licensed Esthetician has always meant more to me than receiving a title. It represents the years I have spent studying skin, investing in advanced esthetics education, refining my approach, and remaining committed to the people who trust me with their skin.
Glow & Gather reminded me that my value is not based on how loudly I announce what I am doing.
My value is found in the work itself.
It is found in the DANGSKYN Method, in the clients I serve, in the corrective skincare results we work toward together, and in the ideas I am continuing to build for the future of esthetics.
There will always be someone with a larger audience, a new skincare trend, another treatment device, or a new opinion circulating online. But no trend, platform, product line, or person can replace the perspective that comes from my lived experience. They cannot duplicate the relationships I have built, the lessons I have learned inside my treatment room, or the purpose behind what I continue to create.
I went to San Antonio hoping to pour into other Texas estheticians, and i returned to Dallas realizing that they had poured back into me, too.
My cup is full, my vision is clearer, and I am more confident than ever in the direction of DANGSKYN, the future of Skindex, and the work I am here to do.
